KPIC Maintenance Services Inc. (a member of the FWS Group of Companies) specializing in industrial maintenance services, providing preventative and reactive solutions along with small project retrofits and expansions to our client’s facilities primarily in grain handling, feed mill and food processing.

To add to this expertise, we are recruiting for a Safety Specialist for our maintenance services division in our Winnipeg office location, to join our collaborative and team-focused organization.

As our Safety Specialist you will implements the corporate policies and objectives of the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) program, aimed at a zero-injury culture. The position requires a passion for excellence in workplace safety, health, and environmental sustainability.

Position Overview:

  • Collaborate with site staff and support leadership team in the planning, implementation, and coordination of effective health, safety and environmental programs related to the business unit.
  • Continuously monitor and ensure conformity to all health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Liaise with client safety representatives and regulatory officers.
  • Knowledge and adherence to KPIC health, safety and environment program.
  • Conduct safety orientations of employees, visitors, and subcontractors as required.
  • Monthly preparation and distribution of safety statistics.
  • Monthly inspection and record-keeping of fire extinguishers.
  • Verify workers are suitably trained for their tasks and maintain certification records.
  • Arrange for worker safety training as needed.
  • Collaborate with the business unit team to document site-specific JHA’s, critical lift plans, and safe job procedures.
  • Each week arrange, plan, and distribute an effective weekly safety meeting topic.
  • Design and implement monthly safety initiatives and campaigns aligned with organizational priorities, regulatory requirements, and identified trends from inspections.
  • Submit WCB paperwork to the Corporate Injury Management Coordinator as needed.
  • Investigate incidents, obtain witness statements, verify information, and prepare investigation reports and injury reports, and follow-up as needed.
  • Develop, foster and maintain positive relationships with the field crew.
  • Conduct regular scheduled site visits and safety inspections across multiple provinces (BC–ON), documenting non-compliances and specifying required corrective actions.
  • Effective follow ups to ensure that unsafe conditions are corrected.
  • Maintain inventory of safety equipment for the business unit.

 

Qualifications Needed:

  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity in all business interactions and strives to meet customer needs in a creative and safe manner.
  • Integrity, commitment and consistent in approach.
  • Pleasant, self-confident and authoritative demeanor with an ability to function within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction safety practices, regulations and techniques.
  • Standard First Aid certificate (preferably at an advanced level), CPR and AED training.
  • Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective negotiating skills, tact and diplomacy.
  • Persistent and assertive in implementing appropriate safety practices.
  • Strong computer and digital documentation skills including completing online safety reports, maintaining accurate records, manage digital files, and work efficiently across multiple platforms (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Valid driver’s license and able to travel long distances is required.
  • Construction Safety Officer Certification or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in safety, managing aspects of onsite construction and the ability to provide oversight to develop site-specific safety initiatives, training and reporting procedures are an asset.
  • Construction trade not required but would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and previous experience of SiteDocs is an asset.

 

Other Information:

  • Regular travel to worksite locations is required, ranging from 60–75% of the time based on operational needs. The remaining 25–40% of time will be spent in the office, with remote work arrangements considered where feasible and aligned with business requirements.
  • Company vehicle or allowance may be provided. Last minute travel may be required for incident response.
  • Physical requirements include heights, ladders, cold or hot weather, occasional lifting, daily walking and/or standing, visual acuity and good hearing.
  • Must be fit for work, in good health, and able to pass drug and alcohol screening.
  • Professional association memberships and attendance at professional development conferences are supported and encouraged.
